QuickMask Problem
k, so I'm a complete n00b at photoshop and I have a problem with QuickMask which is best explained with an example....on pg 13 of the book, step 3 has you enter QM mode which should give you a solid red circle but when I do this the circle remains white and everything else becomes red! How do I fix this? |

You have QuickMask set to "colour to indicates masked areas". You want to change that to "colour indicates selected areas". This is easy to do. Near the bottom of the tool bar, there is an icon for going into QuickMask mode. Double click that icon and a dialog box will pop up to enable you to change the settings. Click on the radio button next to "Selected Areas" and press OK. You can also change the setting without using the dialog box by pressing Alt (Windows) or option (Mac) and clicking once on that same icon I mentioned above. This is a toggle. Each time you alt+click it, the setting will switch between "masked areas" and "selected area". I'd recommend not doing this until you are more familiar with QuickMask. It can be confusing. |

Steve, I guess I was too eager and jumped straight to the steps! I reviewed page 8 and QuickMask now works like a charm! It's overwhelming how much there is to learn but I'm determined to get there! Do you have any plans for a beginners book? |
