Text Effect Question
I'm working on an image that has text coming out of a gun. Is there a way to add a swirl effect to the text so it looks like smoke i.e. a smoking gun? Thanks in advance! Joe. |

Re: Text Effect Question
There are several methods you could try Joe. You could use >filter>blur and then either motion blur or perhaps a radial blur. Also you could also toy with using >edit>freeform transform and then selecting the warp tool on the right hand side of the tool bar. Without seeing exactly the effect your after its a little difficult to suggest which would be best. Hope that helps. |

Chris, I'll give both of those a shot tonight at home. Cheers! |

Re: Text Effect Question
I thought I'd have a go at this. The lettering was a simple sans-serif font. There's no need to use a fancy one. The wave filter was used to create the random curves (a lot of messing around with the settings!). The lettering was then blurred using Gaussian blur - twice, the first at around 8 pixels, then again at around 4. Curves were used to increase the highlights a little. Free transform was then used to stretch it out a little more. The other wisps were created the same way but with a filled rectangular selection. One was made, duplicated and flipped horizontally. ![]() _________________ A happy-go-lucky chap, always dressed in black |

Re: Text Effect Question
Thanks Dalton. As usual, as soon as I posted the image, a few obvious errors showed up. Firstly, the smoke should be rising completely vertically (oops!!) and the lettering should really have a bit more of a fluid motion. That can be achieved with the blur and/or smudge tools. _________________ A happy-go-lucky chap, always dressed in black |

Re: Text Effect Question
This was interesting, I typed the words in white text, rasterized it, transformed it into a cone and rotated it vertically. Then I used gausian blur to give the smoke effect and the liquify filter to move letters about. On another layer I did the same with a white rectangle to add more smoke and I lined up both layers. ![]() |
