layer masks
Can anyone explain what a layer mask is - how it actually works. I'm using one in The Book but I don't physically understand what it does - but I like the results! |

A layer mask hides a portion of a layer without erasing it. When you paint in black on the mask, that region of the layer is hidden; pain in white, and it's revealed again. By painting in, say, 50% black, you can hide the layer to an extent of 50% in that area. Unlike using the Eraser, you can always get the original back again with a layer mask! |
