No idea what I'm doing!
Help! I'm totally new to Photoshop, have got your book but have no idea about the real basics. For example on page 4 it says to hold down the 'modifyer key' - what's that? ![]() Is there any where I can learn all the basic bits? Thanks! |

The 'modifier' key that Steve refers to is either the 'Alt' key on the PC or the 'Option' key on the Mac. The symbols for each key are illustrated throughout the book, but the ones in red show the Mac keys and the ones in blue are the PC keys. What Steve is saying on page 4 is that you must press the Alt key (PC) or Option key (Mac) before dragging out your Marquee to subtract the new selection from the existing selection. _________________ mad as a badger and twice as furry |

It interests me how people with absolutely no clue how to use Photoshop have justified the price tag of well over £300. It seems to be a recurring theme on these pages. Odd. Of course there could be many reasons ![]() |

I first saw Photoshop demonstrated, at least 10 years ago, and fell in love, unfortunatly at the time I could not justify buying it. I'm still in love and use it most days. ![]() |

You seem to have a very low tolerance level towards people Paul... Maybe some people have more money than they know what to do with.... so a price tag of over £300... and probably closer to £500 is nothing to them.... or maybe they just want the best program to work with... which Photoshop is... and actually it can be a lot more straight forward than some other photo programs out there (the reasoning is irrelevant). Like Steve said.... we all have to start somewhere... no-one can be expected to just lift up a copy of Photoshop and immediately grasp everything it does.... otherwise people like Steve wouldn't have to write books on it, or have a forum dedicated to helping people with it ![]() It's taken me years to learn what I know in Photoshop... way back to Photoshop 4 and I'm still learning everyday... So rather than discouraging comments towards newbies... a little help and encouragment would be better.... don't you think? ![]() _________________ DaltonX |
