Patch tool problems
I love the patch tool, I use it all the time and it's much preferred over the clone stamp.

My only problem with it is when I use it near the edge of the image it smears a lot.

I presume it is trying to blend in like it would normally, but can't because it is close to the edge.

Is there any way of getting round this?

I was trying to remove the road markings from the lower left of the image. I know there are a thousand other ways it can be done and I have already done it, but I just want to know if this patch problem can be worked round.

Well what I did was first use the smudge tool as seen below:

Then I used the Healing brush to rectify hope this helps

Re: Patch tool problems
HI Paul,

When using the patch tool on the edge, it will try to sample the pixels off of the edge of the picture. With as much road that you have to work with, I found you can just make a patch from the adjacent road and move it over the white section and it makes a convincing repair. I know what you mean though, and sometimes you might want the patch tool to get a better sample when close to the edge. When this is the case, try making a duplicate layer, move the duplicate layer slightly to the side, so that you can select off the edge of the photo, and then patch the offending area on the duplicate layer. Be sure the original layer is visible underneath so the patch tool can sample from it from over the edge. This will result in a much more convincing repair.
