Merging layers
Is there a way to merge a couple of layers by highlighting them, rather than hiding the rest of the layers and merging visible?

Re: Merging layers
The method I use is

CTRL + Left Click the name of each layer I wish to merge in the layers pallet. (don't CTRL Left click the thumbnail of the layer or you'll select the pixels in that layer)

Then right click on the last layer you selected and choose Merge Layers on the dropdown menu.

The layers should now be merged and placed where the highest selected layer was in the heirarchy.

Hope this is what you were looking for...

Can you do this on a mac which only has a single click button?

Re: Merging layers
Remember, that will only work in CS2. In versions prior to that, you'll need to link the layers and use Merge Linked. If you create a blank layer at the top of the stack and include that in the links, hold Alt/Opt when you select merge linked and it will create a copy of the merged layers on the new one.

Re: Merging layers
I wish I had a mac! I'm sorry, but I don't know the commands or differences b/t controls on a Mac vs. PC.

Maybe creating an action to produce the effects you are looking for could do the trick. It will definately end up as a one-click-fix if created correctly.

I wish I could be more help!

Chris

Yes, it's just Cmd+Click (Cmd=Ctrl)

Tried your advice - and a sub menu pops up. Am I pressing the wrong button (cntrl)?

Re: Merging layers
Cmd (Apple key) on the Mac is the same as the Ctrl key on a PC. Ctrl+click on a Mac is essentially the right mouse button.
