speed + scratch disk
Hi, has anyone got a second disk(external or not) dedicated for photoshop (or just image files) and does it make a big difference with speed ? My I-Mac is getting slower by the week and it still has 60Gb left on the internal drive ! Any info would be appreciated. Dave _________________ Corners are just bent straight bits. |

Re: speed + scratch disk
The simple answer is yes. Having a dedicated space for the scratch disk really makes a difference. I have a second internal drive which has a 20Gb partition purely for scratch space. An external FW or USB2 drive will work just as well. Of course, adding more physical memory will also speed it up immensely, if that's an option. _________________ If you hold on to the past, sooner or later you'll lose your grip. |

Is it slow all the time or just PS? How much RAM do you have. What version of the OS? http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/performance.html http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/317280.html http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/332270.html |

You can partiton part of your drive into a seperate drive and use it for PS scratch disk. One of the advantages of having a separate disk is that it stops degramenting other disks when you are using PS. I always used to keep windows scratch file on a sperate partiton. |

Re: speed + scratch disk
The scratch disk must be a separate drive from the start up. |
