Sketching
Hello everybody,

I work as a graphic designer (part-time, I'm in high school, small business, etc.). Recently, my boss gave me this assignment. She wants a picture of this store to look like an architect's sketch. I'm thinking this would imply lots of solid lines, with a little bit of a sketch effect. The sketch filter in Photoshop only serves to make the drawing more blended, with little in the result I want. I have searched the internet for tutorials on how to create this effect with little result.

I am posting a scaled down unfinished image (I have to cut out the power lines and do some adjustments to the final). Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Helixed

Re: Sketching
Hi Helixed.

Under Filter select Stylize, and then the "Find edges" filter.

To make it even more pencil line choose the Lighten belnd mode:

Re: Sketching
This image was made by reducing the photograph to outlines similar to Michael's ... I then combined this with other blended layers using the 'cutout' filter on the original photograph and a gradient overlay
......the biggest cheat though was to turn the outline version into a path that could be exported to illustrator ... I then applied an 'artisitic' brush stroke and returned this to photoshop.

Re: Sketching
Here is a real simple way to turn many drawings in to a simple sketch. I have found this also works really well to convert drawing to a coloring book style. This was done by applying the photocopy filter. You can get different line thicknesses by using different settings.
