Gradient Masks and New Docs
Hi,

I used to remember how to do this, but can't find it in PS help. There was a way to make the Gradient tool work two different ways: one was a cumulative effect, where everytime you use the tool it would just add to the previous gradient you just created; the other option was previous gradient just created would disappear and the new gradient would replace it. Does anyone know how that's done?

Also, I used to be able to select an element in a photo, cut it, and when I opened a new document to place it in the size of that document would fit the recently copied/cut element size. Now it just opens a document based on the last size I used. How do I find that option as well?

Thanks for the help.

hi PS Cheater
I'm not sure about the gradient but the new file size PS will open a new file the correct size for a item on the clip board, so if you make your selection the go edit copy then file new PS will set the new file size to fit your selection, you can then drag a copy of your selection onto the new file. hope this helps there are no doubt other ways.

In answer to the gradient question: set the blend mode to Difference. With regard to the file size, Steve's correct. I just checked CS3, still works there.

Also, you can set the gradient type to forground to transparent, instead of forground to background.
