Colour replacement help needed!
My husband had to replace a colour on a drawing he'd done with a known pantone colour: C=40 M=0 Y=70 K=0. Because it was a drawing with pure blocks of colour (actually a schematic map he'd drawn), he managed to do it by mixing the colour and dropping it in with the paint bucket.

But it got me thinking. If it had been several small pieces of the original colour, all of which wanted replacing, could it not be done with color replace? I tried it, but I can't figure out how to give it a cmyk formula to replace the selected colour with, iykwim.

Can any of you more experienced bods help? I'm using PS7, in case it's different in other versions.

Thanks in anticipation!

I haven't really used this feature much, but when I read your post I decided to have a play around with it.

In answer to your question, it can be done in CS and CS2, not sure about PS7 but you can try it.

Open the Replace Colour dialog.

Click with the eyedropper on the colour you want to replace.

(What follows is an alternative to using the Hue/Saturation/Lightness sliders)

Near the bottom right of the dialog you'll see a swatch of colour labelled 'result'. Click in this square with the mouse pointer. This will open up the 'Color Picker' dialog.

Again, near the bottom right of the dialog you will find CMYK values of the colour you are replacing. All you have to do is change these values to the ones you require. (You can also change RGB, HSB and Lab values if you prefer, or use the sliders on the colour bar)

Alternatively, you can click on 'color libraries' to open up the 'color libraries' dialog (funnily enough!) This gives you a choice of various Pantone colours.

Let me know if it works in PS7

Hmmm. Doesn't work in PS7, I'm afraid. The swatch is labelled 'sample', and nothing happens when you click (or right click or double click) on it. Looks like I'll have to get CS2!

You could always try Select Colour instead, make a new layer from the colour elements, then recolour them using your Pantones.

Thanks Steve, that sounds a good idea.
