100% photoshop- ring
Pg15 step 6 should this be command or ctrl alt instead of just alt before you nudge up? Also if the ring is created in the default photoshop size 5X7 72 the curves enhancement (pg 16) looks way choppy. The lack of image size direction thing has messed me up. I'll try 300dpi (US paper) from now on. Cool book though- my students like it. |

Re: 100% photoshop- ring
You can either select all (CTRL A) or load the ring as a selection by CTRL clicking on the thumbnail. With the Move Tool selected and the selection still active, hold ALT as you nudge with the up arrow key. In the introduction to the book, Steve states that the assumption is that the reader will have a general working knowledge of photoshop and I guess this will include resolution / file sizes etc. Generally, the resolution required for print is 300 dpi. I usually work in a 3:2 aspect ratio, because that's what my Canon camera produces. I usually start with a file size of at least 8 X12 inches at the resolution stated. The file size you have cited will be about 500 pixels wide, as opposed to 3600 using the size I've suggested, so the circle will appear jagged. In short, the higher the resolution, the smoother the result, but there is a trade off with file size. Hope this helps. Nick |

Re: 100% photoshop- ring
The Curves adjustment can certainly look choppy, but this is nothing to do with image size - it all depends on the shading. I've avoided giving precise instructions on image size because, well, the size you choose to work is up to you... it's more important, in my view, that you get to understand how the tools work, than simply being able to follow a recipe. Glad you're enjoying the book, anyway! Steve |

Re: 100% photoshop- ring
I'm having a problem.... I create a ew layer, draw the elipse and fill it in with the gray; but from there when I enter quickmask mode, the entire canvas is highlighted instead of the ring. When I free transform and scale it toward the middle and delet it, it does fine. But.... on step 6 when it says to use ctrl A, everytime I do this, instead of just selecting the ring, it selects the entire canvas. Am I missing something simple??? |

Re: 100% photoshop- ring
Just figured it out..... I used the magic wand tool on the ring and the rest of the steps went just fine. |
