Re: Shadow
Hi Martti

The car floating in the water will cast a shadow on the bottom of the pool, so the Curves adjustment layer is used to darken that area. The car is in sunlight and will not be in shadow, so it is loaded as a selection and filled with black on the curves mask to hide the effect. You then deselect and paint black on the mask, except where the car casts the shadow. This approach does involve a fair amount of painting.

The way I would tackle this would be to create the curves adjustment layer and darken the water to the desired amount. I would suggest you try changing the blend mode to luminosity before making the adjustment, as curves adjustments can sometimes over saturate the colour. Fill the layer mask to black to 'hide all'. Then load the car as a selection and inverse the selection, so you will paint outside the car area. Then dab white paint on the mask where you want the shadow to be created.
