Weird stuff happening
All of a sudden I cannot work on any of the layers in my document! If I try and copy the layer it copies as blank. The only clue is that when I go on a layer the title comes up bold in the layers menu What have I done and how do I stop it! _________________ I'm not really bad - I just draw that way |

Thats a bit odd. Not much help so far from me, I had a a couple of ideas, but I checked them and they do not give the same problem you have: -if the layers are locked (presume not) you can still copy, but as locked, whichever aspect you have locked. -In PC, checked if file you are working into RO (Read Only), but you can still work on it in PS but of course cannot save as same name. .... I remember seeing bold layers before, but I cant remember at the moment how or what the reason was .... |

Of course need to check you have enough memory or disk space free, also try saving what you have as a new psd file, and also to another external remote drive/card. Close PS if that works. If that works, restart PC. Open PS and see if problem is same on either of the drives. If you have another PC with PS, see if same problem exists if open the file on the external drive copy. |

No memory problems so far as I am aware and turning the PC on and off has no effect - no external drives unfortunately. If I duplicate the file the same problem persists - if I try and paste in another image the layer comes up as a translucent silhouette _________________ I'm not really bad - I just draw that way |

Josephine I cannot think of anything which would cause this. I assume you've checked that you're in the correct modes, i.e. RGB / bit depth etc. Can you post a screen grab?. Sounds like the software may have become corrupted - just a guess though. Is the PC working fine other than that? Nick |

You may have just hit the nail on the head Josephine. Go to Image>Mode and check that you are in 8 bits per channel mode. _________________ If at first you don't succeed, destroy all evidence that you ever tried. |

Strange! The only thing I can think of is that a selection, covering a transparent section, is active, in which case you are copying nothing - but unlikely. Bit depth, yes, what is it? Never grasped it myself, other than some filters don't work in 16 bit. I stick to 8 bit, which is sufficient for what I do. |

Just check if you are in Quick Mask. Just hit the 'Q' and see if that fixes it. _________________ If at first you don't succeed, destroy all evidence that you ever tried. |

I must have hit the Q button by mistake - but should it have affected every layer? They weren't all linked - have to say masks are another thing I have never bothered to get to grips with  _________________ I'm not really bad - I just draw that way |

I recommend to work more with the masks....I use them always (but for me not Q mask, I do them directly, but my style of workflow) |

Just generally speaking I have never really seen the point of masks - I tend to just make a selection _________________ I'm not really bad - I just draw that way |

Shame on you! Masks are much, much more than ways of making selections! And QuickMask is one of the easiest ways there is to make a selection! Back to school. Read the Masks chapter again. Steve |
