How to easily create this effect?
Hi I need to create some website graphics that depict images on box canvases. I can easily do this manually in a few minutes, but it would be nice if I could use some 3D functions in Photoshop so that I can edit the angles of these images after I have made them. I might need half a dozen that appear to be leaning against each other or at least standing by each other and sharing the same vanishing point. I was trying out Repousse to see if that would help. Below is an image of what I have so far. It's almost there but the image on the edge of the bevel is stretched and not just wrapped around the edge. I have managed to do something similar using the older 3D functions of Photoshop by applying materials to the edges but it is time consuming and if I need to change the images I have to cut strips out again to use as the edge materials. There must be a quick way to do this. ![]() |

Re: How to easily create this effect?
Yes, indeed there is. I first described how to do this in How to Cheat in Photoshop CS4, "3D Layers from Primitives". This method doesn't use Repousse. Start with 3D > New Shape from Layer > Cube, and you'll get a 3D cube. Use the handles to adjust this until you get the shape you want. All you have to do then is to select each face in the Materials section of the 3D panel, open it, and paste your artwork into it. Remarkably straightforward! |

Thanks Steve. That was the other way that I mentioned. If this is the best way then I will have to persevere. I will try and create an action to speed up the process a bit. |
