CS5 Refine Edge
The new Refine Edge feature is a god send and has made selections so much easier, but there are aspects of its use I still can't get right. It could do with an undo feature, so that when it eats a chunk of your selection that you want to retain, you can tell it to give it back. In fact I thought you could actually do this by way of the Alt key, but it does not work for me.

Has anyone got any tips on getting the most from this tool?

Re: CS5 Refine Edge
Hi Trevor,

Just my experience so far:
I find if use Refine Edges, with Edge Selction can use the Alt key to subtract, go back to reverse what added/removed. Without Alt the brush cursor is default "+", goes "-" when hold Alt. Can leave Refine Edges and comback later, to the mask refine again with + & - . To get the best need to make sure change brush size as refine selection Edge Selection and make sure centre where want it and overlap across is "right", trial and error dependent on image.

Call always use History of course to revert back to previous state.

Not sure this helps?
Trevor

Re: CS5 Refine Edge
Thanks for the tips Trevor. I have just tried using a smaller brush and being more careful about placement, and am getting on better, but it still gets away from me at times. The Alt key is work though, and I swear it was not working properly before, but if it's a toss up between me and The Twilight Zone, then I reckon the gremlins are good old fashioned user error. LOL

I'll keep on practicing.

Re: CS5 Refine Edge
Certainly Refine Edge speeds up the workflow.
After have a mask, or before, you can of course edit, add/delete parts using the myriad of "traditional" techniques available to refine further what you want to acheive and dependent on image, especially where the algorithm can only go so far on some areas.

Have fun !

Also, CTRL + Z (CMD + Z on a mac) is available to undo the last action. CTRL + ALT + Z is also available for multiple undos.
