Making Gambling Dice
I am making a ProShow Gold show about gambling (Choice, Chance,Challenge), and would like to create dice similar to those on Steves book cover. I have a template of cubes but would like to round off the edges and insert the spots. Can anyone tell me which chapter or video to find to show me the general direction for this task? (I have not visited the forum since last August so my apologies for not answering the personal message about copying the disk for Stew - would this be permissable to burn a copy of the disc?) |

Re: Making Gambling Dice
This is a tricky thing to do. Are you going to use CS5 Extended to model the dice? Or did you want to try a different approach? This technique isn't directly covered in the book, as it's both complex and somewhat esoteric, but as you're now the second person to ask me about it I might just have to figure out a way to show how it's done! |

Re: Making Gambling Dice
Thanks Steve, I haven't installed my CS5 yet - probably next week when my husband has sorted out a problem with Kaspersky (next Tuesday) for now I am still using CS3.5. I photographed a red dice this morning and was going to play with that, or try to insert some of the sides into one of my template cubes to see what i could achieve (I am an elderly novice, but love this creative medium.) I will look forward to any tutorial you might produce.Elona. |

Hi Elona, I don't use CS5 ( ![]() Just Google for Blender and it will take you to the site where you can download it completely free of charge. It's available for MAC, Windows and even LINUX. Gordon _________________ Why isn't 'phonetic' spelled the way it sounds? |

Re: Making Gambling Dice
Hi Elona, I'm not sure if this is what you want to create, but I hope it will give you some ideas on how to create a dice in photoshop. Click on image to make it larger ![]() Step 1: Create the dice shape using the pen Tool on a new layer and fill this in with a color. Step 2: Make sure you have the Selection Tool selected and Ctrl Click on this layer to create a selection around the dice shape. Now move the seletion as show in the picture for step 2. Step 3: Hold down the (Ctrl + Shift + Alt) and click on the dice layer to create a selection show in the picture of step 3. Now Feather the selection: Select > Feather and type in a number for the Radius. Now fill in the selction with a darker color. Step 4: Now Deselect the selection: Select > Deselect (Ctrl + D). Do the same thing on the left side of the dice to make that side brighter. Step 5: Create the black dots and add any hilights using a hard edge brush with a white color. Step 6: add any shadows to finish your picture. I hope this helps Luis |

Re: Making Gambling Dice
Many thanks Gordon, I believe i have just sent a reply to you on your personal message - let me know if you receive it as it was written at the bottom of your letter. (i'm still trying to work out the format of these replies.) To Luis, your diagram and instructions look wonderful - I'll print it off. I needed the dice this week to go into my 'Gambling' A/V and so in the short term i have photographed a dice, selected and duplicated it and saved it as a gif file for my show. I will enjoy working through your instructions at a later date to add to my Template folder. Many thanks for your time and efforts. Elona. |
