Perspective
Hello, I have attempted this a few times but it never works properly. For this weeks Challenge I was going to do a tiled floor, so made the tiles square on, at least twice as big as the original image. Then using distort to match the perspective. However the front tiles end up getting stretched whichever way I try. Am I expecting too much, trying to match this perspective? I know I could make the front row (or two) of tiles and then using vanishing point do a repeat transformation, but then the tiles are exactly the same in each row. Is there a simple solution? ![]() |

Re: Perspective
Interesting. I think you are very close Deborah. Here is my take, just using perspective transformation and bit of scaling of a checker board. I feel another Bridget Riley phase coming on again http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bridget_Riley ! Its just art, and you never know what lens he used, but with his camera, wide-angle-ish I think. You are probably much closer than me, and you know, but I think this makes it more dramatic either way, takes the eyes and interest into buildings, and not what we can't see in the rest of London. Look fwd to your entry, which are always great, even though mutual struggle sometimes. ![]() It would be nice if I put a FridayC contribution in now ![]() |

Re: Perspective
The problem is the front edge of your surface - the one at the bottom of the image. It needs to point towards the back more, as the perspective on this edge, so close to the viewer, would be more extreme. It is tricky to do, as there aren't any vanishing lines in the image that could be of help. You just have to judge it by eye. ![]() |

Re: Perspective
Hello, I don't think I explained myself too well! I probably shouldn't have used the background I did as it complicated matters with the 2nd vanishing point. So, intentionally forgetting the 2nd vanishing point, I can't fill the whole of the ground area with a tile effect without too much distortion of the front tiles. I have tried with the tiles twice the size of the stjames image, and this most recent one is three times the width of the stjames image, but it doesn't work as shown by the red lines on the tiles - they started out square! So is there a point where you can't distort and you have to either draw in the tiles properly in perspective, or, distort a line or two of tiles at a time as per page 125 of HTCIP's CS5. Sorry to ask this again. ![]() |

Re: Perspective
Hi Deborah, I had a go at this last night, it is a horribly awkward perspective to try and do. As you can see my perspective is probably not the right angle as I've used the far right column as being in line with the viewers eye. Anyway I managed to keep the resolution of the chess board by making it about 5 times the canvas size and stretching it out about another 5 times the canvas size. I added a bit of foreground blur also. I haven't answered you question either ![]() ![]() ![]() _________________ “Art Is Never Finished, Only Abandoned.” |

Re: Perspective
Hi Artwel, This time the tiles were three times the size of the image, and I did make them into a smart object. This time I just used Perspective, but used the mid points as well as the corner points. Nearly got there doing this, but the perspective still doesn't quite work in the middle of the tile area. As soon as I tried Distort or Warp I ended up getting the curved effect that you have. Also, even as a Smart Object the tiles with the most distortion have gone jagged. After looking at those squares for some time it is time for a cold beer! ![]() |
