Re: Problems with light/shadows
Hi Emy If this is shot in RAW, then make two conversions and adjust exposure / Whites and blend the two using a layer mask. If JPEG, then the Shadows / Highlight command can be effective and blend in the same way. You can adjust the layer opacity to achieve the desired result. That said, the image is what it is and is not unacceptable given the natural lighting used. Nick |

Re: Problems with light/shadows
It's a tricky one. Shadows/Highlights didn't work for me, it just brightened the background too much. I did this version by making a Curves adjustment layer and boosting the shadows that way, then filling the Adjustment layer's mask with black to disable it, then painting the effect back in on the kids and the faces. ![]() |

Re: Problems with light/shadows
It's never going to be ideal because the highlights in the man's face and T shirt look to be be clipped at peak white. So nothing to rescue whatever you do. Steve's solution does an excellent job on the shadows but I think there's precious little can be done with the highlights. Probably not important because with photos of this nature what matters is recognition - that people can see themselves and loved ones without being buried in shadow. Clipped highlights come low on the scale of the subjects priorities, however disappointing they be to the photographer. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |
