Re: Odd Problem with CC2020 warp tooL
I would love Steve or anyone who has experience of 2020's impressive new warp tool to have a look at this. I am running into a problem that I am sure must be a failure to properly comprehend the tool rather than something left out by Adobe. When I started on my the Churchill quote I borrowed as a basis for the line on my poster was two long lines across the top the poster. My intention was to use CC2020's new warp tool to do this. But I ran into so much trouble that in the end I abandoned this and used three straight lines on the left side. ![]() I started with the white cliffs. I made them 'smart' and warped the smart object to fit. It worked fine. I then assembled the medics made them into a single smart object and warped them. Once again it worked fine. ![]() However once I started on the type, which is geometrically precise, I ran into no end of problems. I started with this. It's a type layer. I made this into a smart object so as to be able to warp it. ![]() Using the new CC2020 warp tool I placed my grid as follows, containing the type between guidelines and placing a vertical at the highest point under the curve of the poster. ![]() I then group selected the points on the vertical division and lifted them vertically. You can see the problem instantly. ![]() When I tried to correct this I ran into trouble. The left side worked reasonably well although it leaves a lot to be desired. ![]() But the right hand side is an entirely different kettle of fish. The letters start to distort vertically and get wiggly. ![]() If I zoom in a bit The crux of the problem becomes immediately apparent. Unlike normal curves, where the bezier handles can be moved independently of one another by using modifier keys, The bezier handles here maintain their perpendicular relationship. So lifting the horizontal handle bends the vertical as well. I fooled around with every modifier I can think of but I haven't been able to find any way round this and move only the horizontal handle. ![]() So is this an inherent limitation or am I missing something here? Suggestions anyone? If you want to play with this you can download the PSD of this demo from my dropbox here _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

I think you're making this unnecessarily difficult for yourself. Having distorted the white cliffs, why didn't you just open the Smart Object and then paste the doctors and the text in there? |

So they would have followed the same distortion? I really am missing the obvious! I am not convinced that the white cliff distortion is accurate enough for something as rigorous as text but I will try it. I am nonetheless puzzled Steve by my inability to manipulate the node handles independently as you can with other curves. I still wonder if I am failing to understand something here? Just edited this to add a thank you. How very remiss of me!. Thank you Steve. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Odd Problem with CC2020 warp tooL
Tried it Steve. Thanks. Sadly it doesn't work. The cliffs suffer the same problem as the type. It simply isn't apparent as there are no precise verticals in the cliffs to show up the problem as there are in type. I have discovered in the Adobe community that the issue I am having is a known issue and Adobe say 'They are looking into it'. In the meantime another contributor has proposed a work around. So in future I will have an alternative. Thanks Steve _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Um. As you say, it may be a bug. In which case hope for a fix! There are worse bugs in the world at present. |
