Lasso tool in PS CS
Hi, Can anyone advise if there is a setting in Photoshop CS that disables the ALT key function when using the lasso tool. When I hit the ALT key whilst using the lasso tool in CS it does not enable vertical selections as I believe it should. If I open Photoshop 7 and try then the Lasso tool will make the vertical selection when hitting the alt key. I am new to photoshop and am still finding my way around. Thanks in advance |

I'm not sure what you mean by 'Vertical selection'. The Shift key will constrain to horizontal, vertical and 45 degree angles. The ALT key operates differently, depending on what you are doing. If you're using the Polyganal Lasso, it will temporarily switch it to the Freehand Lasso. It also has different effects when you already have a selection, on its own, it will cause the new selection to be subtracted from the existing one. This is going from 7 as I don't use CS but I didn't think the modifiers had changed. _________________ It must be Thursday, I never could get the hang of Thursdays |

Hi, thanks for your reply. In Steves book 2nd edition of H2CIP, page 6 step 6 he describes using the lasso tool to select the picket fencing. Hitting ALT key whilst using Lasso enables you to select a straight vertical line. In Photoshop CS it also states the same :- Select the Lasso tool , and select options. (See Setting options for the Lasso, Polygonal Lasso, and Magnetic Lasso tools.) Drag to draw a freehand selection border. To draw a straight-edged selection border, hold down Alt (Windows) or Option (Mac OS), and click where segments should begin and end. You can switch between drawing freehand and straight-edged segments. To erase recently drawn segments, hold down the Delete key until you've erased the fastening points for the desired segment. To close the selection border, release the mouse without holding down Alt (Windows) or Option (Mac OS). When I try to replicate this it does nolt appear to work ? got me puzzled. |

Ooops, I stand corrected! I'm not really sure. I do know that 'unofficial' installations of CS cause the shortcuts to go missing. _________________ It must be Thursday, I never could get the hang of Thursdays |

I've heard a lot of reports about CS being a tad buggy. I expect there will be an update at some stage. _________________ It must be Thursday, I never could get the hang of Thursdays |
