A useful little shortcut?
I discovered this little quickmask cheat last night: I'll use the hubcap selection from the book as an example. Supposing you want to select both hubcaps at the same time, you create the first selection with the elliptical marquee, switch to quickmask and distort it to fit. That's fine but what about the second one? You'd have to exit quick mask, create a new layer from the selection, then go back to the previous layer and repeat the process, followed my merging the 2 layers. Instead of that, create the first selection, come out of quickmask and go straight back in (press Q x2), now hit CTRL+SHIFT+D which brings up the marquee for the fitted selection, you can now hold CTRL+ALT and drag a copy of the selection which can then be transformed to match the other wheel. When you create your new layer, both hubcaps will be there. This sounds very long-winded but the process of doing it it is quick ![]() _________________ A happy-go-lucky chap, always dressed in black |

As is usually the way, it was plain necessity - I was writing a tutorial and needed to select the wheels of a car but I'm constrained to the number of steps I can use. _________________ A happy-go-lucky chap, always dressed in black |

You can also select the selection (as it were) in QuickMask using the Magic Wand tool. Or, since there's nothing else around the second hubcap, select the first one with the regular Marquee tool while still in QuickMask, and then just drag it and distort to fit the other one. |

Yes, and some of us struggle to stay in the saddle! Last time I tried a bit of equine activity I ended up in hospital with a sprained shoulder. What is it they say? Horses for courses? |
