Up the pole
Hi. I'm having problems tying the flag to the pole. I've tried the trick on P43 (rev,3) no joy. I've drawn a path, made ants and stroked them (that sentence doesn't sound right!) and the stroke covers only one part of the line. I've looked in the index for 'Stroking ants' to no avail. 'Making rope and string' didn't work either. So how do I attach the flag to the pole? Ted PS. I didn't set out to draw the best French flag

Don't make the ants! First, draw the path you want with the Pen tool. If you use multiple paths, then make sure none of them are selected - you should be able to see the paths, but not the square anchors. Now switch to the brush tool, and choose a small, hard-edged brush. Pick your colour, make sure you're working on a new layer, and hit Enter. The path will be stroked with that size of brush. For variations, add bevel and emboss to give the sense of thickness; or change the layer mode to Dissolve, for more of a rough-edged rope. |

Steve. I understand now. Can you check me out here? I made the line with the pen tool but I had to save the path before I could stroke it. I couldn't get rid of the square anchors and saving the path seemed to do it. I also needed to touch the path on the new layer before I hit enter before it stroked. However, the flag is now flying tethered to the pole. Thanks for your speedy response. Ted |

You don't need to save the path, just as long as it's still visible. The thing about deselecting it only applies if you have more than one path - in which case, only the most recently drawn path will be active, so that's the one that will be stroked. To deselect the paths, hold command/control with the Pen tool and click off them. May your flag always remain tethered! |
