Light subject
I'm trying to get this image to create an energy from the hands but with more of a sunburst look but using the background color for the color of the burst except lighter to keep the background more shaded.I've been trying to use the Lens Flare filter but I'm not quite sure if I should put it on a certain layer or maybe a different filter all together. Any thoughts?
(I hope I explained this right)

Steve, it's a little difficult to picture in my mind what you mean by a sunburst effect with respect to this image. Is it a radial burst, a directional burst, fanned out, straight, etc.

I would use a separate layer for the effects and keep the original untouched. That way you can different things and experiment with the blending modes and transparency.

Here's a sample for ideas. This used your original layer and added a second layer in overlay blending mode at 60% opacity. The layer was a foreground to transparency radial gradient with the foreground set to #feaaff. I drew the gradient out from the center of the light and then used the burn tool to add dark lanes to the glow. I used a strong gaussian blur and rotated the image with the liquify filter to get the spiral.

I would experiment with the foreground to transparency gradient rather than the lens flare. You can get a directional feel by drawing in a selection and feathering it before applying the gradient.

Have fun and play with it until you get something you like.

Thought I'd give you another sample. This one was a triangular selection repeated and feathered then filled with the foreground color and set to screen mode. This one any closer to what you were thinking of??

Re: Light subject
Thanks Bob, that radial gradient idea looks great.I guess I'll spend more time with some different approaches. This gives me a lot more options than just trying to use the flare approach.
