How would you do this?
In FC 93 I used this picture as bockground. The end result you see in the next posting. The only problem with that was to remove the bottom part of the girl and her shadow. That was the easy part! The tricky part was to achieve the Dalek's shadow on the ground. The shape wasn't the problem, the but getting the right colour was difficult. I used a Hard Light setting on the shadow layer and adjusted the colour several times before I ended up with the shadow in the picture below. Using the Eyedropper tool wouldn't give me the right colour. Should I instead have used a different layer setting. I tried Normal setting and fiddled around with the opacity, but I didn't get that to work for me. Using hard light also meant that wherever the shadows intersected the result was very dark. A layer mask removed most of that, but there are traces left. So my question is: How would you this? Is there a simple, or a simpler, way to do this? ![]() _________________ It's only in my brightest moments I understand myself |

Re: How would you do this?
Interesting problem. I noticed the slight coloration difference in your post and thought that it was pretty difficult to do right. I tried and here is the result. The difficulty I find is that the shadow of Dalek is stuck between the 2 shadows of the policemen and those are not the same color (see the red Xs); one is bluere then the other. I managed to match better to the left shadow by using the Level Color Adjustment Tutorial from Bob: http://www.howtocheatinphotoshop.com/cgi-bin/simpleforum_pro.cgi?fid=10&topic_id=1142194934 Not perfect, but it works pretty good. I spent a whole 5 minutes doing this, so imagine putting some will into it... Here is my feable attempt: ![]() Edit: I notice I forgot to blend the "edges" of the shadow, I think I would use a soft brush and clone some color around... _________________ |

Here I tried the Clone tool for the edges and it helps quite a bit... ![]() _________________ |

Re: How would you do this?
Thanks for your advice, Pierre. I tried your ideas on the JPG file, which is what you worked on, and found it easy, witout spending much time, to achieve a result similar to yours. Maybe that's what I should've done to make the final touches. Another idea, I haven't tried it, would be to use the PSD file and create the shadow in a solid colour just to make the outline. Then on a new layer use that outline to clone stamp the shadow. Ideas, anyone? _________________ It's only in my brightest moments I understand myself |
