Help need with splitting an image. to make is look like 6 seperate sections
Hi I want to start selling my artwork on A4 size glass segments and want to print my image using lazertran onto the glass.

(all sizes are just for the internet and not actual sizes of artwork)
My question is with an image the size w29.7cm x h31.5cm .I want to split this into 6 A4 size segments w14.85cm x h10.5cm . so would be using 2 widths of the a4 segments to make the 29.7 and three lengths of the a4 segments making the 31.5cm.

Can anyone tell me how I go about doing this, I want to be able to actually arrange these pieces on a white new document to make it look like a wall and the artwork was being displayed how it would look on a wall.

Does anyone have any ideas, All I can think of is using the slice tool but I don't know how to get the slices into seperate layers.

Hope I've explained it ok , please get back if theres something you don't understand and I'll try to explain better.

Cheers
Phil

The slice tool won't help you here - it's purely for making web pages.

The easiest way would be to use the Marquee tool, and from the Style pop-up in the Options bar, choose Fixed Size. Then type the dimensions you want to end up with in the numeric fields that follow the button.

It will be easy to select the top left, top right, bottom right and bottom left segments of the image simply by dragging the marquee to those areas. To select the middle sections, you should first select (say) one at the top, then drag a guide to line up with its bottom edge; you can then move the marquee to line up with this guide.

Does this make sense?

First of all divide the picture up using guides. These can be set to any position by typing the position (eg. 29.7cm vertical) into "View\New Guide". Then use the rectangular marquee tool to select each section with "View\Snap" and "View\Snap to\Guides" selected, and copy the selected area to a new layer using "Ctrl-J".
