Smoothing Text?
I have text and graphics that needs to be exported to a router machine. Everything has been converted into a vector graphic with pen lines and segments. Unfortunately, the router will try to cut every small, jagged edge of the text and will result in a nasty looking sign.

How would I go about smoothing the text and graphics? I'm using Illustrator CS2.

Below is an example of my little problem.

Warm Regards,
Chris

I think the only solution here is to redraw the path in Illustrator, using fewer anchor points! Intrigued about the process, though. How does your router hook up to your computer?

Re: Smoothing Text?

Well...erm...the router is at my new job, so I'm not sure how exactly it's set up. However, I looked at the connections and software, and basically this is the process:

The artwork is designed on my computer using Illustrator.
From Illustrator, I have to export it to Corel
From Corel 12, the artwork is exported to the other, much older, Windows OS computer via network. Then, another person sends it to the router machine from that computer.

The computer is connected to the router via parallel cable similar to a printer cable. The software on that computer is CASmate-PRO that sends the artwork to the router.

(from my computer, I have to export the artwork as an eps file using the following method: http://www.howtocheatinphotoshop.com/cgi-bin/simpleforum_pro.cgi?fid=02&topic_id=1148320257

Hope this helps Steve, and when I learn more about the process I'll be sure to post better descriptions for you.

Come on Steve, you said woodworking is your passion. You can't start doing it with a computer. It takes all the fun out of getting splinters and breathing sawdust!!

Re: Smoothing Text?
I've realized since my last post that the software the Router uses is EnRoute version 2.3 And the software the Plotter uses is CASmate-PRO.

Each device is connected to its own individual computer via parallel cable, and all are connected to my computer via network connection. I don't have those programs installed on my PC, but my files must be exported as an EPS with only line art so they can cut onto the vinyls or wood correctly.

Does this make sense?

This is getting beyond me! I can stick heads on bodies, but when it comes to cimputer-driven vinyl cutters I'm lost!
