Save As?
I'm curious to whether the save as "Illustrator .EPS" option is any different than an EPS file saved by any other program? The reason is I'm getting an error message saying that the eps file created by Illustrator is the wrong format when I import it in a different program with the capabilities of opening an eps file...

Re: Save As?
Depends how fussy the other program is! Some can only cope with EPS files written in an older format.

Re: Save As?
I've tried every format available...Seems to be a very picky program that only accepts EPS files from Corel.

I'm new to your forum here, and not completely sure about what you're asking...but:

If you're saying that an EPS file you've saved from Illustrator CS (or CS2) is causing an error message when you try to import that EPS file into some other application...if that's what you're asking about...maybe the application you're importing into has a problem with Illustrator CS files that are too new.

Have you tried (instead of "Save As")...have you tried exporting the EPS file as an "Illustrator Legacy EPS" file? (Illustrator > File > Export > Format: Illustrator Legacy EPS.) Then, in the Legacy EPS Options dialog box, you can choose an older version of Illustrator as the file format for your EPS file...which may be what your other application needs for a successful import.

P.S. Sorry if I've missed the point of what you were asking...

Re: Save As?
Photoslopper, welcome to the forum!

Thanks for your reply. Well, my problem isn't easy for me to explain, so I'll try my best.

Below are the hoops I currently have to jump through to get artwork sent to a vinyl plotter and wood router:

- I receive artwork from a designer that was created in Illustrator CS2.
- I open the artwork in Illustrator CS2 on my computer, and save as a lower Illustrator version so it can be opened in Corell draw 12
- Open the artwork in Corell
- Export the artwork as an EPS file to another computer which runs the plotter and router via network. The plotter uses CasMate Pro and the router uses EnRoute. These programs can import the eps file, and begin making the sign. For some reason, they only seem to accept eps files from Corell.

My goal is to be able to export the artwork directly from Illustrator on my computer to the other computers on the network, and eventually cut Corell out of the sequence. Corell is only being used for exporting the file to the plotter/router. My current method seems to be a waste of time, but I'm no expert!

Thanks for any advice!

Chris

Re: Save As?
Oops, I use Corell X3, not 12...if that makes any difference.

I'm also using a Windows based computer.

Photoslopper's solution sounds the right one to me. Have you tried it?
