Selecting a layer
When I work in Photoshop I normally select and deselect the various layers at a regular basis, but lately I've had problems.

When I hold down CTRL and click the layer, I'm not getting the selection. Have I accidentally made some changes in the Photoshop setup?

I miss being able to select my selections

Re: Selecting a layer
It could be you have Auto Select Layers turned off in the Options bar.

Where are you ctrl-clicking? In the artwork, or the Layers palette?

Re: Selecting a layer
I'm ctrl-clicking in the Layers palette. I've got to check if the Auto Select Layers is turned off... if it is I'm feeling stupid

Re: Selecting a layer
Auto Select doesn't affect the Layers palette.

To select layers in the Layers palette, don't use the Ctrl key - just click on the layer's name. Only use the Ctrl key if you want to select additional layers.

Ah - thanks a lot! I feel stupid, but that's normal for me

Re: Selecting a layer
If you have the Move tool selected. Hold CTRL and click an element of the layer in the document itself. That will select it as well - goes awry if the layers are in a group, it'll only select the group folder. Useful if you have a lot of layers and cannot remember what's what!
