Creating animated gifs-New forum user
Hello everyone

I am new to this forum and today I bought Steves book, third edition. My I say that I find the book very informative, superbly illustrated and very hard to put down. I particularly like the part on how to create new eye balls and the tutorial on how to create stubble, so simple yet very effective. I am now going around and trying out these tutorials on loads of my pictures, the eyeballs is a truly amazing affect, I have even tried to animate them it looks great…well spooky!

I want to have ago at creating animated gifs from scratch, some I have seen are great fun. I have seen a great one on the disc that came with the book, it is the animated gif of a guy, its called “dancin-man-wearing-glasses” in the maiden folder. Where do you start when you need to create something like this?

Would I start with my original image then make a selection of the character and delete the background so the character is on a transparent one? then would you select different body parts then new layer via cut or copy? I just can’t seem to get my head around it so any help on this would be much appreciated.

Thanks for reading

Wayne

p.s. great site as well as book

Hi Wayne,

I'm not familiar at all with animating GIF's; however, there was a Friday Challenge dedicated to them. While many created wonderful animations, some were having trouble. There is a bit of help here.

Yes, it might be worth dropping Maiden an email from her site. She knows her stuff when it comes to animated GIFs.

Thanks for the help folks

I have been having another play this afternoon, I think I am slowly getting there but it is very hard to figure out. I will go and have a look at the links you sent me.

Thanks

Wayne

Funny how there was uproar when she left but after she posted once more then slipped away again not another word was uttered.

Hi Wayne, nice one for your first go - a comment though, unless you were bodybuilding in the film 'Jacobs Ladder' or you really wanted to get a headache I would suggest that you could set the timings a little longer in your animation frames so your head isn't bobbing around quite so much, try it and preview in your browser to see the result.

Hi Glen

I have deleted the original psd file now, this was just a mess about really, I will have to do a new one shortly. I can see what you mean with the movement though, it is a little fast; it is giving me a head ache here, lol

I love the ones on the cdrom, the cliff Richard ones are well good…great fun but hard to figure out

You can still edit the GIF and alter the speed. Open it in Image Ready and change the timings.
