Adjustment Layer Problem
I'm working on a 16-bit grayscale scanned image from a piece of 35mm Kodak HIE film, . It's of a piece of driftwood. In any case, to get the look I'd like, I have to increase contrast quite a bit. At first this seemed to work, but I"ve recently noticed a problem: I can ad an adjustment curve or levels layer and can use this to make the image look more contrasty, but if I flatten, merge visible, or merge down that adustment goes away. Any ideas? |

Why do you need to flatten the image? You can work with the image as a psd, and then if you need it flatten you can save it as another file type without layers (such as jpeg). I don't know if this is the answer you're looking for, but it works. Helixed |

I first noticed the problem with the thumbnails in the browser: I made major adjustment, but the thumbnails looked the same. In any case, the images are flattened when printed. Since my aim is to make prints, that's a problem.  |

That's most odd. You're saying the adjustment disappears when flattened? Curious. Have you tried saving as a flattened JPEG or TIFF instead? |

Steve, Thinking about Peter's problem, on occasions I have noticed exactly the same thing with layer styles. I flatten the image (or merge down) and the style disappears. I can't remember any specific instance of this but it has caught my attention in the past. I can't remember if this was on CS2 only or whether it applied to earlier versions. Gordon |

With blend modes, styles, masks and even clipping groups, it depends on the order in which you merge them as to how the final result will look. It's usually OK if you start at the top of the stack and work your way down. _________________ If you hold on to the past, sooner or later you'll lose your grip. |
