Live Trace Feature
Often times I receive artwork from designers that needs to go to a plotter. Before It is sent to the plotter I have to do a tremendous amount of work on their artwork because not all strokes are present in the wireframe (outline) view, as well as a number of other portions of the sign.

Currently, I have to either use the Expand tool or Outline Stroke tool to make the wireframe lines. More often than not, they produce unpredictible effects to the nodes when viewed through the wireframe mode.

Corel Draw has a nice "Contour" tool that produces more expected results, but is still very time consuming.

This problem has been quite troublesome when I am supplied with complex logos and graphics.

I am experimenting with alternatives by using the Live Trace feature after rasterizing the artwork. This feature would be the Holy Grail if it were more accurate when outlining more precisely the crisp edges of text and artwork. But unfortunately, the artwork is no longer crisp when I rasterize.

Corel has the "Convert to Bitmap" and "Trace Bitmap" features that do the same thing with less control.

How can I prepare the artwork to be traced with Illustrator with the "Before" and "after" artwork exactly the same?

Thanks in advance,
Chris

Re: Live Trace Feature
I'm not sure if this will help, but the artwork is usually supplied as fully editable EPS files.

I think you may be hoping for the impossible!

Not wanting to put you off, but surely there are Illustrator-specific forums where you can get more considered responses to these questions?

Yes, I have posted in other forums with no luck. Just thought I'd give this one a try...

I typically post questions in forums related to the program, but in this instance they couldn't help me...I was hoping maybe someone in this forum had a secret technique to cheat me out of my little problem.
