Chapter 9, reflections
I know its probably something simple that I'm not seeing. But when I duplicate the sky and flip it vertically everything flips. (I'm doing this in images>rotate canvas>flip vertical) What am I doing wrong? Any response appreciated.

Re: Chapter 9, reflections
It's because you are rotating the "Canvas" (the whole image with all it's layers) if you intend to flip a copy of the sky layer you need Edit/Transform/Flip Vertical whilst the sky copy layer is selected.

Thanks maiden, I'm new to photoshop and the only flip I could find was in image and the chapter didn't clairify as to how to "flip" it. Thanks a million.

No problem Neil, what's always been so great about Steve's Forums is that we can all contribute our collective pool of knowledge to help those who have only just found the wonders of Photoshop or even for those far more experienced but just can't crack a certain problem.

What you'll find as your knowledge grows is there is seldom only one way to solve a Photoshop problem which is both Photoshop's greatest strength and also it's amazing ability to baffle the heck out of those new to it's interface. lol

Baffleing is an understatment. This program is so complex its almost frightning, lol. But at the same time it's very captivating knowing that you have all these tools at your disposal and you don't have a clue as to what to do with them. Thats why I liked the book so much when I saw it at the book store. I knew it was just what I needed to get a friendly, hands on tutorial kind of book that could teach you step by step how the program works. And then to find this support site in the book was the icing on the cake. Thanks again for the freindly response. Sometime one feels like an idiot having to ask such trivial questions and taking someones precious time.

Not at all, Photoshop is daunting to say the least but you will soon be the master of it rather than it being the master of you.

The thing to remember is that Photoshop pretty much has a tool for everything but that doesn't mean you have to use all of them all the time, Photomontage is a totally different discipline to that of Illustration, Design or Photo editting etc. So the packed interface of tools is to cater for people of very different professions and skills.

We all feel like idiots the first time we use Photoshop but soon enough you will pick up enough hints and tips to know what tool is the best to use for whatever you're doing.

Re: Chapter 9, reflections
I completly agree with Maiden's comments. I used photoshop for years without really having a good grasp of how to use most of the tools. It wasn't until I got my hands on Steve's book, and to this web site that I really started understanding how to really use photoshop. I still learn something everytime I sit down and use it.

I sent you a privat message, Neil.

Thanks Dave. I'm glad to hear that I wasn't the only one who was perplexed by the program. And btw your a neighbor of mine. I couldn't help but notice your from Grand Prarie, Tx. Not far from me here in Louisiana. Thanks again.
