Changing Import Defaults
Illustrator CS2 does two things everytime I import a PDF. First, it tells me that a font is missing...but I know it is installed on the system. (The newspaper layout was created by another designer on a different computer) So, Illustrator reverts the text to a default font. How can I choose which font I want to replace the text rather than having Illustrator do the deed for me? Second, If a font isn't installed on my system, how can I tell Illustrator to convert that text to line-art from the PDF? The problem with simply re-typsetting the layout is that there are nearly 75 photographs of a Hospital staff, each with their name and a description under their picture. My task is to delete some employees no longer with the hospital and add new employees. It would be a blessing if all I had to do was change the default setting somehow to allow me to either choose the font, or import the text as vector. Thanks in advance! Chris |

Re: Changing Import Defaults
Hmm. Not sure how you'd go about this one, Chris. Are you sure you have the same version of the font installed? Probably worth getting it from the other designer just to be sure! As to converting the text from the PDF, I'm not sure you can do this! |

Re: Changing Import Defaults
Thanks for the response, Steve. Since my last post, I've been spinning wheels trying to find a cheat... So, here's what I've come up with; I opened the original PDF in Acrobat 7, chose Save As, tinkered with the settings a bit, chose .EPS as the output, and ended up with all the text as vector when the EPS file was opened in Illustrator. Everything imported beautifully. Now, all I have to do is update the employees. ![]() |
