Problem with copy transformation
I have a problem with the copy transform function described in chapter 2, page 35, step 9 and then the subject of the next section, Step and Repeat Rotation.
I just cannot get the copy transform to work (Ctrl+Shift+Alt+T). I have created the oblong shape, dragged the rotation point down, rotated the shape two positions (30 degrees) and hit return to exit free transform. From here I can repeat the transformation (Ctrl+Shift+T) but the copy transformation (Ctrl+Shift+Alt+T) will not work.
Not sure if this is relevant but if I call up the list of keyboard shortcuts , under edit > keyboard shortcuts, the copy transformation (Ctrl+Shift+Alt+T) is not listed (repeat transformation (Ctrl+Shift+T) is listed).
I am using Photoshop CS2, Any ideas?

Re: Problem with copy transformation
If your image is on a transparent background, you will find it works.
Duplicate the layer
Set the bottom layer to invisible
Select the subjects surroundings
Delete
Make your transformation
Now try Ctrl+Shift+Alt+T

Re: Problem with copy transformation
Thank you for your advice but I am already using a layer with transparent background. I have actually got it to work once, but then it stopped again. All of the hardware seems to be working ok ie if I call up keyboard shortcuts (Ctrl+Shift+Alt+K) this works and I can get the repeat transform (Ctrl+Shift+T) to work, but Ctrl+Shift+Alt+T won't. I have reloaded photoshop, and reloaded the keyboard device drivers in desperation but to no avail.

Re: Problem with copy transformation
Hi Martin.

Do at least one of the steps to transform the image such as step 8, and press enter to accept the transform. You will exit the transform mode, and the bounding box will disappear. Then try both of the methods, and they should work (they do on mine).

I also checked my short cuts setups, and I don't see the Ctrl+Shift+Alt+t shortcut either, but it does work. Hope that this helps.

Re: Problem with copy transformation
Hi Martin,

You're are just msissing a samll step. Once you pressed enter to accept the transformation, you then undo it (ctrl-z). It is after the undoing that you can ctrl-alt-shift-T the thing to your content!

Have fun!

Re: Problem with copy transformation
Thanks everyone. I now have it sorted, but in a slightly way from the book instructions and suggestions received.

I hit return to exit free transform mode and the bounding box dissappears. From here I can repeat the transformation (Ctrl+Shift+T) but the copy transformation (Ctrl+Shift+Alt+T) does not work. However, if when exiting the free transform mode I hit return TWICE then Ctrl+Shift+Alt+T does work.

Thanks again
