Can't see my animation
Having marked my own FC this week as 'could do better' I have been inspired by other FC entries to improve with a short (very short) animation in Image Ready.
Not remembering what I did last year I re-read the "Make it Move" feature in the book and watched the movie. I have worked it out how to get the individual frames on the animation bar but when I play them I see nothing.
I do not have the small screen featured in the juggler movie. Bearing in mind I am still steam driven with PS7 where do I find the screen or was it even invented in PS7?

Is Image Ready still available in PS3?

Ted

Re: Can't see my animation
Hi Ted,

When you have your individual frames in the animiation bar, did you make a change in each individual frame so that they will show someting different? If you just copied all of the frames, they will initially be identical, so you won't see any change when you play them. Add something to them that you can move around, and play with make it move through the frames and you will see what I mean. The small screen that will show the animation is the one that shows the four tabs, Original/Optimized/2-up/4-up. It is present whenever you have a file open. This is true with PS7. I still have PS7 on one of my computers.

The easiest way to test this, is to create an image in photoshop, with at least 2 layers. transfer it to image ready, (Press the Image Ready link at the bottom of the tool bar). Create several frames from the original frame, and move one of the layers to a different spot in each of the new frames. Press the play button to see the movement.

I haven't looked at CS3 yet, but I am sure that image ready is still shipped as the companion to photoshop. The Adobe site still shows it.

Image Ready has been dropped as of CS3. They most likely expect you to use Fireworks instead. You can, of course, still use IR from the version of PS you had before.

Re: Can't see my animation
Thank you Dave and David. I finally worked it out with your help. I couldn't see that I handn't made the scene change so it was playing but with the same picture! You've probably seen the new one. All I have to do now is to work out how I make the picture colours better. I couldn't see the 'Save for Web' graphic as shown on p365 of the book.

If Image Ready is not now available in CS3 would it be better to buy CS2 now with a free upgrade to CS3 to get the latest in Image Ready or doesn't it matter now that I have IR in PS7?

What about Bridge, is that in CS3?

I'm not sure there will be a free upgrade; unless you have seen it advertised somewhere. I don't think Image Ready has changed a great deal between V7 and CS2. The animation in CS3 is identical to that of CS2. Most of what is lost through the dropping of IR is to do with web design.

Bridge is still very much a part of CS3. There are some excellent new features such as customisable workspaces, the loupe tool for checking image quality and a whole lot more.

I'll shut up now before I sound like an Ad(obe)vert!
