Friday Challenge URLs not working properly with WordPress
i recently posted this on the FC. I shall call it the Stop/Restart method
Well I have played around a bit with file sizes and image dimentions. The file below is a PNG 2977x1290 px to see if I have improved things or made them worse. |

Well, that's even worse. Now you can click on the image above as many times as you like and you still get WordPress rubbish. I will reduce the file dimensions to 1500x645 px, a size I know HTCPS can handle, but keep the PNG. Here goes |

Now this one above allows the Stop/Restart method (see 1st post) to make it work. I will keep the file dimensions and convert it to a jpeg (smaller file size) and see what happens: |

I don’t think this is a Forum issue, or even a link issue. It looks to me s if you have the image set at a smaller size in WordPress. Would you like me to take a look? |

Please do. I am trying to get proof one way or the other. So far it seems to me that WordPress lets you post very large files, but puts in ads if you do. |

Now the jpeg above is only 1.09 Mb in size but still needs the Stop/Restart. These used to work. Now I am wondering if WordPrss is messing me about. I will wait for Steve's input before I move on. |

This one below is a jpeg 750x325 px. Stop/Restart still needed. Its filesize is just 390kb. Time to dump WordPress? Or pay for an upgrade? We will see.

Have you thought of hosting your own site, rather than using the limitations of WordPress.com? You can still make it a WordPress site, but on your own terms. tsohost.co.uk is very good, and inexpensive. |

When I click in your image on HTCP it takes me to this: 
The image itself has no fixed size it changes constantly as I resize the browser window. When I right click the image and download the png it is the correct full size. Here it is reloaded to my Flickr account set to display original size. 
If you click in this it displays full size as it should. Ain't life baffling sometimes .........  _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

David, Steve, thanks for your help. For several years I have been a happy WordPress user. For some time now WordPress has been spamming me with upgrade invitations and now, perhaps connected to that, I am starting to have problems with very large files. I do not wish to pay for something which is freely available on the net, so I have switched my account to Flickr.com. The above two images are both huge files, the last one sent by me from my new Flickr account. Both work just as I wanted, so I hope this problem has now been put to bed. |
