Creating a seamless loop animation in photoshop
This details my experiences trying to produce a seamless sky loop in Photoshop from a position of zero experience in animation.

Here is the end result.

Re: Creating a seamless loop animation in photoshop
Nice work David, you created a useful method to address the issue. As you indicated, I would not want to be forced to use photoshop on a daily basis for animation purposes.

This is a ‘slowed down scrolling sky’ version of my entry, using a two second loop transition. I used a mirror image for this sky and the software, when saving to gif does the rest, not perfect but it ‘is’ a looping gif. The loop transition is time based and then of course it relates to the frame speed, most of mine are at fifteen frames per second. As Steve suggested a couple of years ago, you can copy 3-4 frames from the end of the loop and after adjusting the opacity to a varying degree paste them over the first 3-4 frames of the starting images in reverse order, also a laborious task, I have used this method and now choose not to ever do it again.

As I mentioned it is time based, so at fifteen frames per second, the loop transition at one second would blend fifteen frames, at two seconds thirty frames.

Yes this is very interesting Loyd. It almost works.

I suspect the secret to getting away this is to keep the clouds very wispy and indefinite. It is interesting that in your example the top right corner works really quite well whereas the hard edged cloud just to the right of the lantern chimney works much less well and the repeat is very apparent. That same portion of cloud is hidden behind the roof on the right side so doesn't give the game away.

Thanks Loyd. Very educational.
