thumbnail enhancement
Is there a way to make a line drawing more "bold" so to speak. Attached is a World War 2 tank drawing. I would like to make the lines darker to stand out better. Thanks! Jeff |

I converted the layer to greyscale and used the levels command, moving the black pointer to the right and the midtones pointer to give the best result. Another way is the trace the image with the pen tool and stroke the path with a suitable brush. |

Re: thumbnail enhancement
Thanks Rufus! Now, how can I make the image "opposite"; black lines white and the background black? Or any other color Thanks Jeff |

Re: thumbnail enhancement
Thanks Born, Is it just as easy to change the color of the lines to something other than black? Thanks Jeff |

Re: thumbnail enhancement
This technique works best at a high resolution so change this to 1000 pixels/inch. Select the white background using the 'Magic Wand' tool set to 100% tolerance, inverse the selection (Shift-Ctrl-I) and create a new 'Layer via Copy' (Ctrl-J). Lock the transparent pixels on this new layer (square symbol near the top of the layers palette) and fill the layer with the colour of your choice (Shift-F5, selecting Foreground Colour). Fill the Background with white to eliminate the original drawing. Reduce the size and resolution as appropriate. |

Re: thumbnail enhancement
There is another alternative that retains the original. To thicken black line drawings you can duplicate the original layer and set the duplicate layer to a "Multiply" Blending Mode. Then to add colour to the lines add a Hue & Saturation Adjustment layer above the two layers and tweak the Hue, Saturation, Lightness sliders for the best effect. As Rufus explained, to invert the line drawing Ctrl+I each line drawing layer and set the top-most line drawing layer to a Blending Mode of "Screen". Duplicate layer set to Multiply above original layer Hue & Sat Adjustment Layer above tank layers Hue & Sat Adjustment Layer above tank layers (topmost layer set to Screen) then Ctrl+I inverted _________________ mad as a badger and twice as furry |
