Hello all, i have to turn this downloaded image into an old dyeline print ie white lines on a blue background, does anyone know of a way to enhance it, have tried another layer and set it to overlay but it is not very clear. Is the only way to trace over it with horrible bezier curves? I will do the blue background by finding some paper and doing a large format zerox  |

I had a summer job once, where I traced technical drawings in Illustrator. It's tedious work, but the result is great. You can even group various lines into figures, to make it easier to change, color or work with them. You could always try the (very) much cheaper alternative to Illustrator called Xara Xtreme. Download a trial version from www.Xara.com. Its only $79. I've been using it and its forebears for years and it is brilliant. Ted |

Deborah, Make a selection then invert (via the Image/adjustment), so that the lines are white and the background black, fiddle around with a Blending Mode (SCREEN), and choose a blue fill layer beneath. I accept American Express, Visa, or loose change Mike

Here's my take on it. It is not necessary to copy the background, just change it to a standard layer by giving it a name. I like to keep originals around.  _________________ |

Here's the result. Note that you will need to flip the image horizontally and vertically to be able to read the numbers... They are imperial measurements, in fractions of inches.  _________________ |

Many thanks for your help all. Steve it is a freely available drawing and I am working on a TV programme! But you can remove it if you want, don't want to upset things. |

Well, I have got to redraw it as the resolution was so low it all just pixelates, But i found yet another way to alter the original. 1 Invert it, then go to curves and go on to the blue channel, move the left side right up and black turns to a glorious blue. Don't know when anyone would ever want that information but there it is! |
