First timer in need of some help....
Hi all...

I am currently constructing my first montage after getting totaly addicted, and I need some help in making it look "realer", I suppose thats the right word!

This is a low-res version, the original is 300dpi as it needs to be printed out in poster format, and it is no-where near completion. I have more characters to place in the frame and a background to source.

Any suggestions will be gratefully accepted.

Tabitha

I love the expressions in this scene. But the perspective is a little bewildering, which is not neccessarily a bad thing. Personally I would use the Transform Tool set to "Perspective" and postion the monument so that it is leaning towards the viewer - which is how it would look if you were looking up. Then change the perspective on Bush, Bin Laden, and Hitler to match the new perspective. If you have Photoshop CS try the Match Color filter to even out the tones across the montage.

Something on these lines

sorry it's so rough but I was working from your flattened .jpg file and had to clone a lot of the monument.

Maiden, I take your point - but I rather like the perspective of the original, the way they're crawling out of what is, effectively, a hole in the ground rather than a hole in the wall. I'd lose Hitler, though. He doesn't add anything meaningful, and detracts from the composition.

But the expressions are great, Bush's eye direction works really well, and Osama's hand on his shoulder ties the two together. The only thing you need to do is soften that hard shadow, and that will make it look far more realistic.

On reflection it does look like they are crawling out of a hole. I wasn't really sure of which way the monument is meant to be without seeing it's original source, and whether Tabitha was trying to convey that they are leaning out of a window or pulling themsleves out of a hole. I do agree that Hitler doesn't add anything to the montage, although I'm a little confused as to the overall message Tabitha is trying to explain in her montage. Nonetheless it is still a very good effort.

Many thanks for your input, I will try to soften the shadow and I feel that the light is a little too harsh.

The meaning behind the image - I have to produce a piece of work for college to convey in some form the "7 deadly Sins" in a modern context. I have chosen Greed/Pride. The message on the plaque, which does not show too clearly in the low res image says "The path of Duty, was the way to Glory", it is a photograph taken of a tribut hanger for a dead soldier of the WW1. I wanted to fill the "hole" with politicians/tyrants of the last 100yrs who have used this philosophy to cover up war crimes and attrocities. I have portrayed Bush trying to crawl out of the hole, but he is failing and being held back by the other occupants. In essence it is saying that Bush cannot esacape because he belongs there. Does that make any sense?

I know studenty academic bull, but if it gets me my credits LOL

Best Wishes
Tabitha

That make perfect sense, now that you have explained the context. Your perspective therefore is perfect. I hope you will show us when you have filled the hole a bit more.
