Dog Walking, art (or lack thereof) question
I think this question comes about, 80% due to my lack of artistic ability, and 20% photoshop abilities. I cannot see what is wrong, I just know something is. My wife wants a brocure for her dog walking business, so I thought I would put this picture in...however it does not look very realistic. The bird is too big, but I wanted that. I added a shadow, and that helped. I think the feet are correct even though they are hard to see on the dirt. But realism is still not there. So I am open to suggestions as to what it needs. |

I think it might help if you lower the saturation of the bird as it seems a little too brightly coloured for the tones in the scene. _________________ mad as a badger and twice as furry |

I totally agree Maiden. The photo was obviously taken on a dull day hence the low colour saturation, whereas the bird is far to brightly saturated for the scene. Also there appears to be some high contrast points on the birds body, which is probabaly unlikely for such a dull day so you may need to do some dodging and burning. |

I agree with maiden - I think the saturation is the key issue here. But you also need to look at the shadow: it's an overcast day, so the shadow you've painted is too strong. Also, placing the shadow so far to the side accentuates the fact that the woman isn't casting a shadow in the same direction. Move the shadow directly under the bird, to give a sense of it being on legs and suspended above the ground, and lower its opacity. Then show us your results! |

Lower the saturation on the bird like they said. Also add some green and blue tones to the bird with color adjustments since the scene is outside, that will also help alot. Also you may want to get rid of the image artifacts and grain on the backround image or add artifacts and grain to the bird so it fits. _________________ -Atomic |

Re: Dog Walking, art (or lack thereof) question
I thought about the shadows, but wasn't sure where they were wrong...I never thought about the bird colors, saturation or high contrast points. Atomicfog, I don't see image artifacts, other that what is there because of the very low resolution. What am I not looking at? Extra help here would sure be appreciated. Thanks everyone for the comments. I will repost in a day or so, trying to incorporate the suggestions. |

Yeah, I was refering to the artifacts left there because of the low resolution. I will try shopping it myself in a bit to see what I can do. _________________ -Atomic |

The colour balance was difficult to get right and I thought getting rid of the bench and some cropping would help. |

Re: Dog Walking, art (or lack thereof) question
I have finally finished my wifes honey-do list and can get back to fun things. Thanks everyone for the replies and new pictures. My (new version) looks somehwhat much like AtomiFogs. The picture that rufus did has a nice desaturated green that I tried to duplicate, but could not quite get there. rufus, I like the "fuzzy" feathers. Is that because of the low res I originally posted or did you do something? How did you put the new leash in? Copied from another picture or painted and bent the old one? I moved the shadow below the body, but on top of the feet and desaturated the bird. The feet still seem to float a bit. But definitely better. THANKS AGAIN! |

Much better timpl I can see what you mean about seems to be floating, while the shadow position is better it's still too harsh for the subdued lighting blur the shadow some more and reduce it's opacity. _________________ mad as a badger and twice as furry |

Maiden; Thanks again, I thought the shadow was still a bit heavy, but I was trying to show the feet. Why? I thought it would help it look more real, but you are correct (again timpl |
