Changing hair colour in Photoshop?
Hey all, was wondering if anybody could offer some advice or input on this little problem. Basically I'm trying to change the colour of my girlfriend's hair in Photoshop from brown to blonde. I've found changing its colour to brighter colours like green or red (for whatever reason!) is much easier, but when a little subtlety is required it gets a lot more challenging to make a convincing change. I want to change this picture: http://img23.imageshack.us/img23/4465/myschmolly0jo.jpg and make it look like she has blonde hair. So far the best I've managed is this, done with a colour adjustment layer: http://img23.imageshack.us/img23/8807/blonde3iw.jpg which looks completely unconvincing and tacky IMO. Can anybody manage anything better? and before anyone asks, yes she said I could post the pic here |

This is my quick try: 1. select hair (I used a high contrast channel mask) 2. copy to a new layer 3. used levels adjustments to lighten hair 4. clone tool to lighten parts of hair that were still dark, top to head etc. |

That's pretty good, much better than mine! However it's a bit too peroxide blonde for my liking. A shade or two darker and it'd be perfect =) |

I copied the picture to a new layer, darken the layer, created a mask and painted the face, shirt and background with black on the mask... darker hair. This was just done quickly. I played with different things and this is the one that worked for me. |

Actually it would have been better not to have lightened the hair so much in the first place. Let me know what you thing. I need all the praise I can get. |

My attempt, though I can't explain it realy well since I did alot of tweaking. Main thing I did was magnetic lasso the hair and use selective color. After: _________________ -Atomic |

Re: Changing hair colour in Photoshop?
I did this one by selecting the hair and then using Curves.... firstly brightened up the RGB Channel then took out the green in the dark hair and added sum red and yellow and a little blue... finally I used Hue & Saturation to decrease the intensity... wuz hard to correctly select the hair in such a low res pic.... but I hope it's better than nothin |

Put a bag over her head (not saying she is ugly), it hides her hair that way _________________ 3 Radio Visit http://www.3-radio.co.uk and listen! You will love it! |

I was hoping the hole at the bottom was ok to at least see the pavement and to breath from! _________________ 3 Radio Visit http://www.3-radio.co.uk and listen! You will love it! |

Re: Changing hair colour in Photoshop?
Changing very dark hair to very light hair is certainly more challenging than the other way around. I got this far making a selection and using selective color, adjusting only the neutrals and blacks. From this point, one can easily make further adjustments to suite. |
