Working on an image using Displacement Filter - need advice please
Hi Everyone,

This is my first post and I'm really enjoying the book!

I'm working on this image. Using the displacement filter i've placed the swiss & scottish flag on the curtains (In case you're wondering my friend is half swiss, half scottish).

I've had to free transform quite a few areas of the scottish flag to offset it in the places where it should be offset. Such as in the folds of the curtains.

What i'd like some advice with is how do the settings in the displacement filter dialogue affect it.

I.e..

Vertical scale
horizontal scale

Stretch to Fit
Tile
Wrap around
Repeat edge pixes

I'd also appreciate any C&C on the image itself, areas I might have missed, what i could do better etc. This is my first attempt with the displacement filter but i want to get it as good as possible

Thanks

I think the problem here is that there isn't enough contrast in the original sheets, which is why the Displace function isn't having a great effect. Try using Curves to boost the contrast of the map first, then go with the default Displace settings. Raise the Vertical and Horizontal scale as required - this filter is rather hit and miss, as you can't see what effect the numbers are going to have before applying it.
