How to print a fingerprint from a scanned image in Photoshop ?
Hi there,

I have a client wants to print his fingerprint on general A4 paper. So, he gives me a paper with his fingerprint in blue color on it. I have scanned the paper in 600 DPI and then used unsharp mask filter and some tweaking in photohsop and then used my Epson Stylus C79 printer to print in the same size and color of original fingerprint.

The problem is that when I print the image in size of 2.5 x 1.7 cm approx. (original fingerprint size on paper), the image becomes very opaque and there is not many vibrant detailed on it, while the detail on the original A4 paper are excellent and clear. So, I don’t know really how to print a good and acceptable fingerprint from a scanned image of fingerprint. Is there any particular methods and instruction for printing high detailed small images like a fingerprint in Photoshop?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Funny you should ask that question. It is something I have been working on commercially.

To start with I found scanning the print from glossy paper gives the best results.

I just tweak the scan with levels and it removes the soft edges. I am printing at 18in square and up and they look good.
