old Barn - sunrise
Hi again - Bob here
I've been working on an image, actually I placed the image on the back burner awhile ago, issue is with the direction of the light. The barn is front lit and the sky & sun I added is behind the barn. Is there a way to correct this & if you look at the image is it really noticeable? Note - It was noticed on another form I belong to by 1 individual

I used 2 photos I shot while back-packing in one of Canada's National park. I did notice some digital noise in the image, put will clean that up later.

Thanks for looking
Bob

Hi Bob,
Yes I can see what you mean. Try flipping either the sky or the barn horizontally. Whichever you do will depend on how you see the final composition. Either way that will put the light in a better position.
But it's still a nice shot as it stands.

If the barn is the focal point of your work I would try to create the sun rays from the upper left corner of the photo to look more convincing. This may mean changing out the whole sky, and replace with a different one.

Re: old Barn - sunrise
I corrected the suns direction & used burn & dodge on the on the old homestead and surrounding trees. I also ran noise reduction in the sky. Here is the final. Better or Worse?

Re: old Barn - sunrise
Hi Bob,

No I'm afraid I think it has made it look bad. Running the noise reduction on the sky (I can't see how much noise there is at this resolution) has blurred all the detail in what is, otherwise, a very nice sky. I reckon that it may be better to accept the noise as a fact of life.

With this image all I did was to flip the sky horizontally. The shadow to the right of the barn gives the clue as to exactly where the light should be coming from. The lighting direction doesn't quite match up but the tiniest (and I do mean tiniest!) bit of dodging on the left wall just to darken it very slightly might help.

I also tried a version using a Wratten 85 warming Photo Filter set at 50% on the foreground with the barn cut to a separate layer, as the grass is just a little too green for this light.

Another thing you might like to try instead is, with the barn again cut to a separate layer, to adjust the curve in the red channel to add a little more red to match up with the sky. If you use a layer adjustment curve you can mask out the barn instead of cutting it to a new layer.

Better colour version here:

Hope this might be of help. It's still a nice pic, though.

Ya I kinda agree with you. I like the darker tones better. Did not notice the issue with the sky, I was concentrating so hard on getting the sun right on the barn. I completely missed the line in the sky. Back to the drawing board.

Hay thanks for the help & the honesty - Appreciated. Will keep ya posted. Not giving up on this one.

I really don't think these two elements work together. Based on the shadows and the light areas of the barn, the sun should be to the upper left of the viewer.
The way the sun is now, the viewer shouldn't see much light on the barn. The light source is coming from the other side of the barn. Shouldn't there be a deeper shadow in the grass on the viewer side of the barn?

Sorry for the late response have been out with strep throat. Ya it was pain full, 4 day of pain. Spent today on the PC trying different idea's. Have moved with Steve, new sunrise & different position for the sun. Still same great colour thought.
