Major Photo Restoration
Hello Forum
I was given a real photo restoration challenge by a friend of mine. In the past I have restored several photo's with moderate to severe damage, but I have never seen one this bad. After spending some time with it. The problem I am having is with the face.and neck. After using mainly the clone stamp and healing brushes I am left with little to no skin tone . Not having allot of area to sample from dosen't help matters. I was wondering if anyone has run across any information on extensive rebuilding of flesh/skin. Also working with the eyes and mouth. If anyone has any ideas on how to attack this they would be greatly appreciated.
Marty

Wow...Thomaz thanks for your reply. I guess I really need to spend some time and master the dodge and burn tools.

No problem Marty.Try it.Sure with more time you can spend on it will look even better. For me the most difficult was restoring her nose.It is one thing but can change her face overall to not look like her, and you can add new dress instead restoring old one, its hard to see what is it.Problem with tone you can fix if you desaturate it and add sepia/warm color filter at the end of your job. Good luck.

Now here is a challeng and a half!

Does the owner want to retain the style and feel of the original image or do they want something that looks more recent? I personally think it would be a pity to try and change it too much.

Re: Major Photo Restoration
Sophie, Thank you for your thoughts. Yes the owner would like to keep it as original as possible. Myself being somewhat of a purist and a lover of antiques and history would like the same. The rest of the image shouldn't be as much of a challenge as the face. I just need to hone on my skills working with skin especialy the face.

Joey, Thanks for your input. I had not thought of using the guides to keep things lined up.

You're welcome, Marty. I picked up a trick or two in 15 years teaching Portrait Painting. I love sharing the knowledge...........
