Low quality image
Hello all,
I've been given a photo by a friend, taken on her blackberry, which she wants printing as large as possible. However when I got it on to my computer there is so much noise and pixellation. I have had a go, but gone a bit too far with the childs face. Any suggestions? Have tried black and white copy set to hard light, soft light etc.

Hi Deborah
Not sure what version of PS you have, but if CS5 the Camera Raw may come to the rescue. The noise reduction is excellent and it works on JPEGs too. Just save the file into a folder and then launch Bridge. Right click on the thumbnail and select Open In Camera Raw. I'll be happy to help where I can.

Nick

Thanks for that Nick. Yes it did help a bit, so I will now amalgamate the image I did with the raw version and a bit of specular bloom, Will post it tomorrow.

Something else which may help with enlarging is to increase the size of the image in 10% increments until the desired size is reached rather than increasing to the desired size in one operation.

In my experience the helps reduce pixelation.

Stepping up in 10% as BigVern suggests is a good way. Setting up an action can do it faster. Some people go as low as 3% increments and run an action to repeat the steps x times

Re: Low quality image
Hello Vern and Chris,
It wasn't so much resizing it that was the problem, but all the noise from being a low resolution in a shady area.
Anyway I did 2 versions and am getting my hair cut in exchange! A good deal that.
Just posting the original and one of the final images.
