Old B&W Photo tips?
Hello all! I'm attempting to try and restore this old photo: http://virginianaturalhistorysociety.com/temp/koreanwar1.jpg I know the first step it to fix the dust spots and scratched. However, I'm not having much success enhancing or bring out more detail in the image. Any suggestions? |

Hi John, Try duplicating the layer and set the blending mode to screen. This will enhance the details in the dark area but start to blow out the highlights so just mask those out. Duplicting the layer again will further enhance the detail. My favoured method of sharpening an image is to copy the original layer and place it on top of the stack. Select Filter>Other> High Pass. This will make the picture look awful but that's ok. Select a radius of around 7 pixels and click ok. Change the blend mode to Hard Light to sharpen up the image. Experiment with the radius if you wish. Gordon _________________ You do not need a parachute to skydive. You only need a parachute to skydive twice. |

To me, this is a clear case for the Shadows/Highlights adjustment... and no need to mask afterwards. |

Even better! Forgot all about shadow/highlight. _________________ You're never too old to learn something stupid. |
