Hair
Excuse the mannequin, very much work in progress. Have been trying to paint hair, starting to get there (in places), but could do with some suggestions on how to improve. |

Re: Hair
That's really good. I spent several days working on hair when I was planning an update to 100% Photoshop, and I found it really hard to model... perhaps a few more layers needed, with individual strands? |

Re: Hair
And another version, certainly not perfect, but an improvement I think. A few things I have learnt, read a couple of tutorials which weren't a great deal of use, but; 1 Use an airbrush, I was using a soft edged brush at a very low capacity. 2 Dodge and burn on a new grey layer helps with sheen. 3 Adding squiggles on a new layer and then erasing in the darker areas adds a little texture. I think I chose a really difficult style, if I had tried curls it would have been easier. Still not got a real shine to it but had enough for the time being. |

Deborah, That is looking good. I'm not sure it is what you want. I have some ideas on this, they come from art but PS adapted.... comment more later .. depends what you would like to achieve. Maybe the key point is must use several layers. Even with light hair, the under lying hair will be dark (in shadow). For hair the most important part is highlights over, and the whisky dark parts contrasted. With PS and if use various brushes, +e.g. Wacom, against a "canvas" can work quite well... Just my first view. I will post an image and link, just an idea... |

Re: Hair
Hello Trevor, thanks for commenting. I did of course use many, many layers, and I appreciate underlying hair being darker, highlights etc. But what I found with this hair style, as there are no wispy/ curly bits it makes it that more difficult to make it look like real glossy hair. I like your biker image, but it just goes to show that is a lot easier to do a wild hair style than a sleek one. I shall continue with this. |
