Re: Brochure design
Nice design Ryan, but the wheelchair doesn't look right in the main picture. It looks as if it leaning towards us ready to topple over. The reason for this is because perspective of the floor doesn't match the angle at which the chair has been photographed. This toppling effect it even more exaggerated by the fact that you have only put the forward facing side as a reflection (the angle of the reflection also adds to this toppling effect). I would suggest raising the floor's horizon. Add some shadow for the chair then correct the forward facing side's reflection with some perspective Free Transformation then add some reflection for the underside and far side of the chair. I hope this helps. _________________ mad as a badger and twice as furry |

Re: Brochure design
Yes, I agree with Becky. The design is great, but the perspectives are wrong. We're looking down on the seat of the chair, whereas the perspective lines you've drawn tend to a horizon that's way below that point. I think you're making it unnecessarily hard for yourself by putting the reflection in: it'll be a nightmare getting that to work convincingly. How about a nice carpet? Alternatively, post a copy of the wheelchair by itself, and we can all have a go at trying to get it right! |

Re: Brochure design
Thanks for the feedback Becky and Steve. Well spotted with the perspective, looks really obvious now you pointed this out. Think I might ditch the glass grid and reflection Steve if I won't look right. Anybody got any suggestion what kinda backdrops I could use? The original chair pictures were taken on grass, maybe I could use these with a dramatic sky scene. I have attached the two original pics if anybody would like a shot. Many thanks Ryan ![]() |

Re: Brochure design
Hi, I had a go at putting another chair on this image with a mountain backdrop, yhink it looks much better with this one. The most tedious part is selecting the wheelchair with the pen tool, took me almost 2 hours. ![]() |

Re: Brochure design
Hi Ryan and good luck with the brochure. Here's my twopennyworth. Ok so you need to sort out the perspective for the grid - I'll leave that to you, my point is around the layout. As we are looking at the wheelchair from slightly above if you moved it down the page it would make more sense of our vantage point. It also looks a little lost where it is as it's not quite centred to the page but not enough offset to make a difference. By bringing it down the page you also set up a template for position of the following pages - (take your page design, put the picture at the bottom and the specifications above). That make a more consistent layout as the viewers eye is naturally alowed to follow text above/pictures below. Use the objects you have introduced to provide a continuum on the following pages - the page number in a grey circle, perhaps text following the shape of the grey curve, stuff like that. Have attached a quick mock up Hope this helps, that'll be £25.00 please ! ( I prefer the first chair myself - its shapes lend themselves to your outlines) ![]() _________________ most of the lack of sunshine in our lives is caused by us standing in our own shadow |

Re: Brochure design
Ryan, that version looks very, very much better. I had a quick go at creating a reflection of your first wheelchair but, frankly, it turned out to be so much effort I just gave up. However, this might make a good tutorial image for the 3rd edition! Glen, your layout suggestions are spot on - particularly moving the chair down so we share its viewpoint. Great design idea. |

Re: Brochure design
Yes I too had an attempt but the angles were just to complex to create a realistic reflection without putting in a lot of work. And I don't have the patience to make such a complex selection of the wheelchair using the pen tool - so you deserve a lot of praise for that amount of dedication to begin with, Ryan. _________________ mad as a badger and twice as furry |

Re: Brochure design
I too gave up on the reflections. Ryan, tell the commissioners that for health and safety reasons this wheelchair - in fact any wheelchair needs to be placed on a firm yet non-reflective surface ! it might work !! _________________ most of the lack of sunshine in our lives is caused by us standing in our own shadow |

Re: Brochure design
Thanks for the feedback everyone. Glen thanks for the Advice on the layout of the brochure, your right about moving the image lower down, I like how you replaced the O in mobility with the double arrow. The refection can be very frustrating to get right, I think the easiest way to the right reflections is to take a series of product pictures at different levels then you have a choice, but you have to do the best with the only picture you have most of the time. The other wheelchair images was a piece of cake to add the reflections to Steve ![]() Becky I find it very boring using the pentool but my opinion is that this has to be the most important tool in Photoshop when creating realistic looking composites, if you spend the time making the best selection you can it makes the final image look much more realistic. Glen great idea! Slippy floors don'y mix with wheelchairs lol |

Re: Brochure design
I agree I always use the pentool where the selection is vital - if I was given a paid project I too would spend some time making sure the selection was perfect, but if your up against a tight deadline 2 hours could take up the majority of the time you had to complete the entire image. _________________ mad as a badger and twice as furry |

Re: Brochure design
Absolutely wonderful design and the main picture is a treat. Just the same issues with the reflection and perspective of the bottom right wheelchair. I would go with what Steve suggested and go for a non-reflective surface (like a carpet) and raise the horizon line of the floor so that it matches the chair and then it would be perfect. Other than that you should be proud. _________________ mad as a badger and twice as furry |

Re: Brochure design
Try flipping the wheelchair on the left horizontally (you can keep the box the same if you want). As a designer you're task is to arrest and lead the eye. How you have it leads my eyes back off the page, flip it and it'll take them to the next .. take a look at magazines, brochures etc to see how they organise the heirarchy within images and text (in other words, how they use size, views, headings, textures to lead your eyes around the page) you're up to £50 now ![]() _________________ most of the lack of sunshine in our lives is caused by us standing in our own shadow |

Re: Brochure design
I agree with Glen, once again. Elements such as people and, in this case, wheelchairs, should always be looking into the spread rather than out of it - you want to bring the readers in, not send them away. Having said that, it's a cracking good piece of work. One you should be justifiably proud of. |

Re: Brochure design
hope you are taking my comments as constructive critisism Ryan I think the design so far is really good, you've created a clean professional mood to the spread - its the tweaking of the elements now to make your good design great hey you can have it all free of charge !! ![]() _________________ most of the lack of sunshine in our lives is caused by us standing in our own shadow |

Re: Brochure design
It's certainly a great piece of design and your hard work definitely shows. A wee tip-ette (horse/stable door) and one I've used a couple of times. Rather than painstakingly masking in between the spokes of a wheel, create a new layer and overlay new spokes with stroked paths. You can then use a layer style to add the shading. _________________ It must be Thursday, I never could get the hang of Thursdays |
